Percentage share of vote

Reasons to be cheerful?

  • If you're Labour .... securing 40% of the vote will have been a positive (& unexpected?) outcome. As will have been the convergence in the red-blue trend lines opposite. But this needs to be reflected in seats to regain power.
  • If you're Conservative ... 42.4% of the vote maintains an upward trend in popularity since 1997, & keeps the Tories ahead of Labour in terms of voter allegiance as well as seats. But the hung parliament outcome is a set back & shock.
  • For the others?.... only the DUP may be smiling!
