CWW OFFENDER HEALTH PROJECT - Thematic Reporting

'README' NOTE:

~ This theme-by-theme webpage is for those wanting to understand more about thematic elements to offender health in Cheshire (for example, how learning disability and offender health are linked).

~ In addition to this webpage there is also a CWW Project 'overview webpage', that provides a resource depository for strategic management documents developed by the project leads (Margi Butler, Michael Lloyd and Kate Woods).

~ The overview webpage can be accessed by clicking here.

THEME A: Mental health, Personality Disorders (PD) and Learning Disability/Difficulties

A1: Mental health

A key improvement sought by the CWW project is to increase levels of awareness across Cheshire on ‘what works’ for offenders with complex mental health (MH) needs - with stakeholders highlighting initiaitves such as New Directions Warrington and Tomorrows Women Wirral (TWW) as notable practice.

Our actions in 2014/15 include:

  • to ask stakeholders to identify local examples of ‘what works’ initiatives – to shortlist showcase examples.
  • to request & collate evidence of ‘what works’ from those projects flagged as notable practice, including outcomes data.
  • If evidence is both robust and positive, showcase notable projects Cheshire-wide – for example, via an event in Summer 2014.

The documents that follow provide more depth to this approach - from 'the basics' introductory document for those new to this thematic area, through to more detailed reporting on what success will look like in 2014/15.

A2: Learning Disabilities (LDs)

The CWW project is working with stakeholders to ensure more staff working with offenders feel empowered to support and inform people with LDs about how to improve their health.

Our actions in 2014/15 include:

  • Critically review local reporting into LD and recommendations/advice relating to offender health.
  • Raise awareness on what works to promote better healthcare to offenders with LD, using Warrington initiative as example.
  • Review effectiveness of awareness raising via staff/key stakeholders consultation.
  • Showcase notable practice Cheshire-wide.

The documents that follow provide more depth to this approach - from 'the basics' introductory document for those new to this thematic area, through to more detailed reporting on what success will look like in 2014/15.
